The Hornady Sub-X (Subsonic eXpanding) Projectiles are purpose-built hunting bullets specifically engineered to deliver reliable expansion and effective terminal performance at subsonic velocities. Developed for use in cartridges such as the .300 Blackout, .350 Legend and other suppressed subsonic platforms, the Sub-X solves one of the biggest challenges facing subsonic hunters: achieving dependable expansion at low impact velocities.
Traditional hunting bullets often require higher velocities to expand effectively, which can result in poor terminal performance when used in subsonic loads. Hornady designed the Sub-X from the ground up to overcome this limitation, providing controlled expansion and deep penetration even at velocities well below the speed of sound.
At the heart of the Sub-X is a large Flex Tip® insert, specifically engineered to initiate expansion at subsonic impact speeds. Combined with a deep hollow cavity and precision jacket design, the projectile expands reliably while maintaining enough mass for effective penetration on game animals.
The Sub-X also features Hornady's proven InterLock® ring, which mechanically locks the lead core and jacket together to improve weight retention and bullet integrity during expansion. This results in a projectile capable of creating large wound channels while maintaining dependable penetration on medium-sized game.
